A new nationwide survey from the Health & Fitness Association (HFA) shows that exercise remains the top New Year’s resolution for Americans.

The survey found that Americans plan to spend $60 billion in 2026 to support health, fitness, and exercise goals. Among the 56% of U.S. adults who plan to set personal goals for the year ahead, **54%—about 82 million people—**say they intend to focus on health, fitness, and exercise, making it the most popular resolution focus for 2026.

So how do you actually stick to a fitness routine this year?

1. Find what you like to do (find your fit)

Choose an activity or workout you genuinely enjoy. Walking, strength training, sports, classes—if you like it, you’re more likely to keep doing it.

2. Start smaller than you think you should

If you don’t currently work out regularly, committing to an hour every day isn’t realistic. Instead, start with 2–3 days per week for 15–20 minutes. After 2–3 weeks of consistency, gradually increase the time or number of days.

3. Schedule workouts like appointments

Pick specific days and times so exercise isn’t a daily decision. Add workouts to your calendar and block off the time just like you would a meeting.

4. Prepare in advance

Lay out your workout clothes, save your routine, or plan the session the night before. Reducing friction removes excuses and makes it easier to follow through.
