There’s no doubt that MENTAL health is just as important as your physical well being. Protecting our minds from negativity and doubt is something we should all practice every day. Here are four of my personal tips to protect your mental health during this COVID-19 quarantine:

  1. Health Affirmations – Words have power. The more you give your attention to a positive outcome and SPEAK words to match, the more likely you will improve your mental health. Start the day with saying things like: “I am healthy.” “The body is strong.” etc.
  2. Eat for health – Start with at least one serving of fruits and vegetables and build from there. Because food effects mood, it is super important that we avoid processed “comfort” foods and opt for the immune boosting nutrients that can be found in fruits and vegetables.
  3. Exercise – Physical activity boosts serotonin, the hormone that produces “happy” feelings. The more you move, the more you can improve your mood. Whether you do a home workout in your basement or dance in your living room, find ways to STAY active!
  4. Take social media breaks – Often times we overwhelm ourselves by continually reading negative headlines or interactive with pessimistic people. Do your best to go at least 4 consecutive hours per day WITHOUT scrolling through social media. Instead, dedicate those 4 hours to doing something productive that will contribute to your personal self-care.
