Had a few too many visits to the buffet? Well if you’re like the millions of Americans who have reported up to 10 pounds of weight gain during vacation, you’ll be glad to know there are some things you can do to get back to your old self. Here are a few tips to rid yourself of vacation weight gain:

  1. Fast between your dinner and breakfast. Shoot for 14-16 hours to allow your body to do into fat burning mode. For example, if you have your dinner at 6pm, wait until 8a-10a the next morning to have breakfast.
  2. Drink LOTS of water. Most of the time we gain weight fast due to water retention. Ironically, drinking MORE water helps you get rid of “water weight.” Shoot for 80 ounces or 1/2 of your body weight, whichever is more.
  3. Avoid foods that caused the weight gain. Even though you’ll still have lingering cravings, it is important to consume mostly whole foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts and beans…all foods that your body can naturally extract nutrients from and allow your body to “detox.”
