If you wake up the next morning after a big cheat meal and look like you’re 5 months pregnant, more than likely you’re experiencing water retention from the extra sodium and carbs that are in most cheat meals. Before you start to worry, be encouraged that getting rid of the extra water weight will have you back to normal in no time. Here are a few things you can do:

  1. Drink more water. This may seem counterproductive but staying hydrated helps your body release more fluids. As you are drinking more water, take it easy. Try sips instead of gulps.
  2. Reduce your salt intake. High amounts of sodium actually cause your body to retain more water causing you to look bigger and feel bloated. To combat this, limit your salt intake to no more than 2000mg of sodium per day.
  3. Eat more fiber. Fiber rich foods promote better digestion. Fiber helps cleanse your urinary tract, kidneys and colon. This leads to the releasing of excess fluids.
