Sugar isn’t bad for you, but over consuming it can lead to weight gain and create and addiction that is hard to shake. Personally, I’ve battled sugar addiction for many years. I have a SERIOUS sweet tooth and unless I plan out my day (in terms of what I’m going to eat), it is very easy for me to give in to my cravings. If you find yourself having the same struggle, here are some things you can do to help beat your sweet tooth:

  1. Replace sugar with fruit: You’ll get valuable nutrients along with some sweetness and save yourself the extra calories. But don’t go overboard, most fruits contain natural sugars so be sure to watch your portions.
  2. Move around: Yep. When you feel a sugar craving coming on, get up and get busy, talk a walk, clean up around the house. Staying active can help keep your mind off the cravings.
  3. Eat more frequently: When you wait too long between meals, you become more prone to giving in to sugar cravings. Instead, try to eat every 3-4 hours, even if it’s a small snack between meals.
  4. Chew gum: Research has shown that chewing gum can reduce not just sugar cravings but food cravings in general. This can help prevent you from overeating.
