Authorities in Monroe County have arrested a daycare worker at Forsyth Methodist Church for allegedly drugging toddlers before nap time.

As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, Kendasja Mequia Hughley allegedly gave kids as young as two years old Benadryl at lunch to make them sleepy. Benadryl is not recommended for children under age 6 without medical supervision. It can cause serious, sometimes fatal, side effects in young children.

A co-teacher who witnessed the incident reported it to the director of the Bright From The Start Program on March 5. However, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the director didn’t report it to authorities until days later, once word spread on social media.

Hughley turned herself in on March 10, and she has been charged with reckless conduct.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the case, and officials say that more charges could be filed.
