#BlackGirlMagic: Jamaican Olympic Newbie Elaine Thompson ‘Fastest Woman in the World’, American Wins Silver

On Saturday, Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson was crowned the ‘Fastest Woman in the World,’ at the Rio Games.

According to People, in her first Olympics ever, Thompson defeated her teammate and former gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, taking home the top spot in the 100-meter sprint.

“When I crossed the line and glanced around to see I was clear, I didn’t quite know how to celebrate,” Thompson said after finishing the run in a swift 10.71 seconds. “Jamaica has so many talented sprinters. To be the second champion (at 100 meters), I’m really happy,” she added.

The silver was won by Team U.S.A.’s Tori Bowie, who also made her Olympics debut, with a time of 10.83 seconds and Fraser-Pryce snagging the bronze finishing at 10.86 seconds, USA Today noted.

Bowie, 25, whose from Sandhill, Mississippi, previously told People last month  that she hopes her Olympic performance will make her “small town proud.”

“One day I hope that I can come to Sandhill, and there’s a huge sign that says ‘Welcome to Sandhill, Home to Tori Bowie,’” she said to the publication.

Congrats ladies! #TeamAfricaDiaspora

BlackLivesMatter: Instagram Video Shows Cops Attacking Bronx Man

A recently posted Instagram video shows two New York City police officers beating a man in the city’s Bronx borough.

According to the NY Daily News, while the beating occurred in early May, the video of it surfaced on social media on Friday showing a violent struggle between Darnell Simmons and the officers arresting him for burglaries he allegedly committed. Already subdued, it appears that a cop and a bystander are on top of Simmons as a second officer tries to handcuff him. The video also shows the 27-year-old being punched and kneed in the face as he lies on the ground, the Daily News noted.

However, police officials, who have declined to release the entire video to the public, stress that the existing social media video doesn’t capture the complexity of the entire incident. They claim that prior to the arrest, Simmons broke the nose of one of the officers.

“The short video clip does not tell the real story,” said Michael Palladino, the president of the NYPD’s Detectives Endowment Association. “The entire seven-minute video captures what the cops really had to deal with to overcome this guy’s violent resistance and spells out necessary force to me.”

Simmons was later charged with multiple counts of assault, menacing and disorderly conduct, all of which are still pending in court.

Boy Bye! Florida Rapper Sparks Colorism Debate Saying, “I Don’t Want No Black B*tch”

Underground Florida rapper Kodak Black has Black Twitter up in arms about recent lyrics that denigrate Black women.

According to ATTN, while Black, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, has been in jail since May for burglary charges, before his arrest, he took to the studio to work on new songs. Now, a video of that session has hit the net and it shows Black rapping, “Where them yellow bones? / I don’t want no Black b*tch / I’m already Black / Don’t need no Black b*tch.”

Black b*tch huh? He’s dark skinned himself so what does that say about how he views himself?

Clearly, folks weren’t having any of this nonsense and dragged Black for dear life:

Edges snatched.
