Pharrell Williams

We hope Pharrell Williams rocks another park ranger-esque hat for his next big gig — the 2014 Oscars!

There’s no word on whether he’ll wear his Grammy Award-stealing hat, but according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the “Happy” singer will hit the stage with his peppy anthem at the big show next month. Along with a performance of the record he wrote and produced for Despicable Me 2, Pharrell is in the running for best original song alongside “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, “Let it Go” from Frozen and “The Moon Song” from Her.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the seven-time Grammy Award winner said he wrote “Happy” to remind his fans to enjoy life. “I wanted to send a reminder: There are lots of reasons to smile,” he said. “You can be resilient with your smile. Why is it so cool to be mad all the time? Some songs, everybody’s so upset.”

The Academy Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, kicks off on Sunday, March 2, live on ABC. Do you think Skateboard P will go home with his first Oscar?
