If you’re planning to travel for the Fourth of July holiday, prepare for heavy traffic and crowded airports.

A record 72.2 million Americans are expected to travel during the 2026 Independence Day holiday period, according to AAA. Transportation data provider INRIX predicts the heaviest traffic congestion nationwide will begin Thursday, July 2, with holiday travel ramping up Saturday, June 27.
