Starting today & continuing this Saturday, three historically black colleges & universities will be taking on three Division I programs in a holiday tournament with a worthy cause. The national non-profit leading the charge to end systematic racism is Coaches vs. Racism. For the second year, CVR will host the HBCU Roundball Classic in Houston, TX for some of the best that college basketball has to offer.

CoachesOn Tuesday, December 13th, the University of Houston will take on North Carolina A&M at 7 PM CST and the competition continues with a doubleheader on Saturday, December 17th. At 11:50 AM CST, Prairie View A&M meets the University of Montana and Texas Tech wraps up the tournament against Jackson State at 3 PM CST.

The games seek to amplify awareness of incredible athletic talent from all schools, and will place an emphasis on HBCUs who traditionally lack resources and equipment and are routinely overlooked by professional talent scouts. Sam Sirmons of Ryan Cameron Uncensored was able to speak with Prairie View A&M Panther’s head coach, Bryon Smith to talk about the significance of the event as well as how his team is preparing for this moment.
