Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed gets wish of selling Underground Atlanta.

The deal was finalized Thursday morning of selling the property to a South Carolina-based property group. The group has plans of turning the Underground into a residential area and a new shopping center, which will have a grocery store.

The group, called, WRS Real Estate Investments of Mount Pleasant, S.C., bought the 12-acre property in Downtown Atlanta for $34.6 million. This was a big win for Mayor Kasim Reed who has been trying to sell the property since 2014.

The Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association, however, is questioning Reed of the legal aspects of the project with concerns of selling streets and building a 2,000-car parking lot.
