According to Marvel Comics’ first Black female writer, award-winning author Roxane Gay, the characters in the upcoming “Black Panther: World of Wakanda” were inspired by none other than “Scandal’s” Olivia Pope. Gay’s stories will be heavily focused on the the all-woman Dora Milaje, the elite fighting force that protects the king, Blavity wrote.

Gay recently told Entertainment Weekly, that when creating the characters and their motivations, she kept DC’s favorite fictional handler close to her.

I have definitely thought a lot about Olivia Pope in season 1 of Scandal.” she said.

Fierce!

Gay also added that the original USA version of La Femme Nikita also served as inspiration.

As previously reported, Gay’s first tale, which Ta-Nehisi Coates will co-write, has a lesbian storyline about two members of Black Panther’s all-female security team who end up falling in love. The second issue, written by poet Yona Harvey, will focus on Zenzi, a female revolutionary character that was introduced in the first issue of Coates’ Black Panther series.

Black Panther: World of Wakanda is currently available for pre-order and hits shelves Nov. 9.
