There has been yet another fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man. On Tuesday night, homeless man, Brandon Glenn was shot and killed after a confrontation with L.A. police officers on the Venice boardwalk.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:30 pm outside of a local bar. Officers were called to Windward Avenue after there were complaints that Glenn (affectionately known to his friends as Dizzle) was harassing customers with his dog. After trying to detain him, one of the officers opened fire; Glenn was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The incident was caught on security camera and is now under review in the investigation. The two police officers that were involved in the scuffle with Glenn have since been put on administrative leave.

Both Glenn and the officer who fatally shot him (the LAPD has yet to release a name) were black males—a noteworthy reminder to us all that the issue of police brutality is not just a black and white issue.

This story comes just two months after the LAPD was getting heat for killing another homeless man in downtown L.A.’s skid row. That event was also caught on video with the officers’ body cameras and a bystander’s smartphone. Video stills from the tape indicate that the victim reached for an officer’s gun before he was shot.

Friends and associates say Glenn was well known and well liked among the homeless community in L.A. They admit that he struggled with a drinking problem but also say that he was a mild-mannered and friendly person. Friends also claim Glenn was trying to get his life back on track and was looking for employment.

Our hearts go out to all of those who knew and loved Glenn. We hope that justice gets served as authorities review the evidence and come to a decision on the case.
