Although Amber Rose filed for divorce from her husband, rapper Wiz Khalifa, back in September, she’s had some harsh memories from her actual wedding with him. In an interview for the Light Girls documentary for OWN, which aired last night, the model revealed that most of her family didn’t attend her wedding because Wiz is black.
She explained that, due to her background (Rose is half-Italian and half-Cape Verdian), her family felt like they were better than African-Americans. It was more important for them to “pass” as white than embrace their black heritage.
“With my family, they feel like they’re more superior, or better than an African-American, because we’re Creole and we have culture.”
“I’m angry that my family is like that and they wanna ‘pass’ so bad that they raised my mom and my uncles and my aunts to not fully know their culture.”
