Daley 1’s “Base Level” column features the hottest new artists we’re buzzing about. Before they make it to the summit of superstardom, we spot them at base level–the beginning of their hopeful journey to the top.

The D in Daley stands for different. Everything about the UK native is unique. From his sound, to his voice to his amazing hair, (isn’t it awesome?)  Daley is the well-needed breath of fresh air R&B has longed for. We spoke to the R&B crooner just hours before his official U.S album debut “Days And Nights” about working with  super-producer Pharrell on his song “Look Up” who are some of his inspirations and how he conquered his biggest fear as an artist.

Name: Daley

Hometown: Manchester, UK

Who are some of you musical Influences: It’s a mixture of U.K. artists and U.S. music mostly. I grew up with Sade, Soul II Soul, George Michael and then that’s how I got into R&B and Neo Soul like  Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Maxwell and then Radiohead. Also, quite a lot of Prince.

What’s been your biggest break thus far?: I guess it would be putting out my first official EP last year, “Alone Together” with Marsha Ambrosius and how people connected to the music. It allowed me to the tour states and Europe.

What’s your biggest fear as a new artist?  My biggest fear is that nobody would be able to hear my music.  Thankfully my album is coming out, so I don’t have to worry about that, but you make the music for yourself but you also want to see how people connect to it and relate to it.

If you could be the musical lovechild of two artists-dead or alive-who would it be and why?

Prince and Chaka Khan just because they’re both incredible, those two forces would be insane. I wouldn’t be white anymore but that wouldn’t be a problem for me. [LAUGHS]
