More people are losing power. Georgia Power says more than 200,000 people have lost power as ice continues to freeze the metro area and winds and heavy ice continue to blow tree limbs down on power lines.
According to the Coweta-Fayette EMC website, customer outages are around 74,383.
In Fayette County there are 38,815 outages, and in Coweta there are 37,121 outages. Cobb County EMC reported 295 people are in the dark. Parts of Bartow and a small portion of Fulton do not have electricity.
The widespread outages are expected to increase as danger builds across Georgia. A winter storm warning continues in north Georgia until 1 p.m. Thursday. The ice storm warning will be in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday, however the Governor has extended the state of emergency declaration until Friday.
The national weather service meteorologists say strong winds combined with heavy ice will exacerbate the potential for more trees toppling. The danger is not only power outages but downed live wires. If you see any lines that are down, please stay away from them because they can be deadly.
