I think we are all sad that mother nature gave summer the boot, but hooray chants are in order because fall is officially here. But getting pretty for back to school adds up fast: new clothes, school supplies, backpacks and a bunch of extra stuff you didn’t realize  you had to buy.

Here’s five cost-cutting tips to help you send your kids back to class in fabulous style without breaking your piggy bank:

1) CREATE A BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING LIST

Make a list of all the supplies your child will need. Some teachers will provide you with certain supplies your child may need. Be sure to include that list in your master school supply list to ensure you don’t miss anything. And stick to your list no matter what cool gadget your little one finds in the sale aisles.

2) SET A BUDGET TO SAVE MONEY ON BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING

Save money on back to school shopping by setting a budget. Set a certain amount that you want to dedicate to school shopping. This way, you will not go over your limit and not spending more than you planned on. As a bonus add an extra few dollars to your budget for every good deed your kid does.

3) SHOP AT STORES WHERE THERE ARE SALES AND DISCOUNTS

Save money by shopping at stores with sales and discounts. You can find lots of discounted back to school items at Dollar Stores. Try shopping at stores such as Walmart, Target, TJ Max and Kmart for clothing and Dollar Stores for school supplies.

4) COMPARE PRICES AND USE COUPONS

You can do a price comparison online to see what stores have back to school sales and what stores are offering coupons for certain items to save on back to school items.

5) HOLD OFF ON BUYING CLOTHES

Most children return to school when it’s still warm. Wait to buy fall clothes in late September or October, when they’re on sale.
