Metro Atlanta has spoken, and they do not want the T-SPLOST.
On Tuesday, voters rejected the $7.2 billion transportation referendum that was intended to help alleviate the area’s traffic congestion through a 10-year, 1 percent sales tax that would have funded several construction projects as well as MARTA improvements.
The referendum failed in metro Atlanta 63% to 37%. It passed in three other districts outside of metro Atlanta: Central Savannah River District, River Valley District and Heart of Georgia District.
The T-SPLOST referendum had support from Governor Nathan Deal, Mayor Kasim Reed and local business and civil rights leaders. State Senator Vincent Fort and the local Tea Party were among the plan’s most vocal opponents.
