If you’ve got a heavy foot, this is your sign to let up on the gas.

Operation Southern Slow Down begins today and runs through July 19, bringing increased speed enforcement to roads across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

That means you’ll likely see more state troopers and local law enforcement out looking for drivers who are speeding, weaving through traffic, or putting others at risk.

The campaign isn’t just about writing tickets-it’s about saving lives. According to traffic safety officials, speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of preventable crashes and traffic fatalities. The message is simple: slowing down gives you more time to react, reduces the severity of crashes, and helps everyone get home safely.

If you, or your cousin who’s convinced I-85 is a NASCAR track, have been pushing the speed limit, now would be a good time to pump the brakes. Getting there a few minutes later beats dealing with a costly ticket, a wreck, or a tragedy that could have been avoided.

This week, do yourself (and your wallet) a favor: slow down, stay alert, and drive safely
