If you haven’t filled up your gas tank yet, today is the day to do it.

Georgia’s temporary gas tax suspension is set to expire tonight at 11:59 p.m., and Governor Brian Kemp has announced he will not extend the tax relief any further.

Beginning Wednesday, the state’s motor fuel tax will return, adding about 33.3 cents per gallon to the cost of gasoline and roughly 37.3 cents per gallon to diesel fuel.

Experts estimate the change could cost the average driver about $14 more per month at the pump, depending on driving habits and fuel consumption.

While gas prices can fluctuate for a variety of reasons, the return of the state tax is expected to push prices higher almost immediately at many stations across Georgia.
