Beyoncé Was Originally Meant to Be on Usher’s Hit Song “My Boo”

One of Usher’s biggest hits, “My Boo,” almost never happened. During an appearance on Storytelling with Dominique Renee, producer and songwriter Adonis Shropshire revealed that Usher initially hated the track when he first heard it.

“We played ‘My Boo.’ He hates it. Hates it,” Adonis shared. “He told us, whatever y’all do, don’t ever play that for me again.”

Adding to the surprise, the song’s original plan included Beyoncé on the female lead vocals. However, she was unable to record her part because she was out on tour at the time. The record ultimately went on to become a major success, proving that sometimes first impressions don’t tell the whole story.
