Something big is going on in Washington, D.C. right now that a lot of people are talking about.

A U.S. Congresswoman named Nancy Mace wants to change the name of Black Lives Matter Plaza. Recall, BLM Plaza was created to honor the Black Lives Matter movement after George Floyd died back in 2020. Wikipedia

Now, Nancy Mace says she wants to rename that area “Charlie Kirk Freedom of Speech Plaza.” That’s to honor Charlie Kirk, who was a very famous conservative speaker, killed earlier this year. The Independent

She says Charlie Kirk stood up for free speech and good discussion, and she wants people to remember that. If this change happens, new signs with his name would go up at the plaza. AOL

But a lot of folks are upset about this idea. Black Lives Matter Plaza was a big symbol of the fight for justice and against police violence, so people feel like changing the name is taking that history away. The Independent

Some people think honoring Charlie Kirk there doesn’t make sense, especially because the spot started to show love for Black lives and resistance. Others think the name should stay the same. It’s a whole heated conversation. What do you think?
