Amazon announced on Tuesday that it is cutting at least 14,000 corporate jobs as it increases its reliance on artificial intelligence. The plan is to streamline operations and reduce costs. CEO Andy Jassy previously stated that AI investments would lead to a smaller human workforce as the company becomes more efficient. Senior vice president Beth Galetti emphasized the need for Amazon to adapt to a rapidly changing world, with AI technology driving innovation in both existing and new market segments. The job cuts are part of Amazon’s strategy to operate more like a startup and leverage AI to stay competitive in the evolving business landscape. “We’re working hard to support everyone whose role is impacted, including offering most employees 90 days to look for a new role internally (the timing will vary some based on local laws), and our recruiting teams will prioritize internal candidates to help as many people as possible find new roles within Amazon,” Galetti said.
