Morehouse College is grieving the loss of Kyle Coleman, a 19-year-old rising sophomore whose life was tragically cut short in Virginia.

As reported by Fox 5 Atlanta, Coleman’s body was discovered on Tuesday in a pond near the site of a car crash in Fairfax County, following an extensive search that began over the weekend.

Coleman, a business administration major with a concentration in finance, was described as a warm and peaceful presence on campus. He was actively involved in several student organizations, including the Morehouse Business Association, LightHouse, the LEAD Certificate Program, and the Consultants Club. Beyond academics, he enjoyed playing basketball, pickleball, and tennis with friends and had recently taken up learning the guitar.

Morehouse College shared their sorrow in a statement, saying, “It is with profound sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news. Our entire Morehouse family grieves this unimaginable loss.” They also noted Coleman’s humility, ambition, and ability to bring people together.

Originally from Gainesville, Virginia, Coleman graduated from Battlefield High School, where he also demonstrated leadership as the Teen President of his local Jack and Jill of America, Inc. chapter. He is survived by his parents, Cimmerian and Keith Coleman (Morehouse Class of 1995), as well as his older brother and sister. The family said he cherished their time together, often spent watching comedy shows like Seinfeld.

To support Coleman’s family, the fundraising campaign initially launched during the search will now assist with funeral and memorial expenses. At the time of this posting, the GoFundMe raised over $9.7K in donations, surpassing the initial ask of $5,000. Morehouse is also offering counseling services to students and staff in need.

“May we honor Kyle’s life by holding tightly to community, ambition, and peace,” the college said.
