Today, April 7th, a level of black excellence was unlocked. The first black woman Supreme Court justice was confirmed by the Senate with a vote of 53-47, which included a vote from the nation’s first black woman Vice President, Kamala Harris. Newly confirmed Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson will now join the Supreme Court as Justice Stephen Breyer retires at the end of the summer.

I had the privilege of speaking with a White House counsel to President Biden, Danielle Conley. In this interview, I ask her about how we learned who she was because she was involved in the process of finding the candidates to be considered for the Supreme Court vacancy, what this means for the country, and what this means to her as a black woman in America.
