Thousands poured into the streets of Staten Island as people came out for a march in Eric Garner‘s memory.
More than 2,500 people came from all over the country to support the call for justice following Eric’s death and that of Missouri teen Michael Brown.
Among the supporters were families of other noted victims of police brutality including Amadou Diallo and Ramarley Graham. It was reported by The Huffington Post that Michael’s family would be attending today’s march as well.

According to the Associated Press, it was a fairly peaceful demonstration as the NYPD reported no arrests during the afternoon march to a makeshift memorial for Eric.
Rev. Al Sharpton, who was leading Eric’s widow Esaw during the march, set the tone for this afternoon’s protest as he told supporters to go home if they could not remain peaceful.
Reuters reports that Esaw repeated his request during a during a pre-rally speech at Mt. Sinai United Christian Church, stating. “Let’s make this a peaceful march and get justice for my husband so that this doesn’t happen to anybody else.”
