Early voting for the November elections start today.  Voters will choose a new Mayor in Atlanta, Chamblee and Clarkston.  Also city council races will be decided in Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Clarkston, Decatur, Doraville, Dunwoody, Stone Mountain, Lithonia, Stonecrest and Tucker.  The state of Georgia is testing a new voting machine system in Rockdale County, it’s called the express vote machine, voters will feed a paper ballot into the voting machines, the machines will scan the paper ballot, record it and count it and then keep them in a secure box.  Interesting twist in the Atlanta election there are about 2,500 registered voters who live in the Emory University area and many of those voters want to cast ballots for Atlanta, but they will have to wait until the annexation is finalized, the Atlanta city council could hold the final vote on the annexation proposal today.

 

Colin Kaepernick files grievance against NFL

Former 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL yesterday alleging that he remains unsigned as a result of collusion by the owners.  That’s following his protests during the national anthem.  Colin Kaepernick started a national conversation about police brutality last year, he remains a free agent.

 

Puerto Rico governor plans to restore 95% of power by December

It will be mid-December before power is fully restored to Puerto Rico.  It has been a month since Hurricane Maria hit and 85% of Puerto Rico still has no power. Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló said “This is an aggressive agenda, but we cannot be sort of passive in the face of Puerto Rico’s challenges,we are going to need all hands on deck.”
