No matter how complicating some people try to make it, losing weight is simply a matter of maintaining a calorie deficit. Simply put, this means burning more calories than you consume. If you can’t exercise as much as you’d like or have physical limitations that prevent you from being active, here are 5 things you can do to lose weight without exercise:

  1. Chew your food slowly. Eating your food slowly can can help you feel fuller with fewer calories and can help prevent weight gain.
  2. Use smaller plates for your “cheat” meal. You can only eat what fits on the plate in front of you. Smaller plates can also “trick” your brain into thinking you’re eating more than you actually are.
  3. Eat more protein. Protein can help increase the feeling of fullness, reduce hunger and helping you eat fewer calories.
  4. Clean your cabinets. You know the old saying: “Out of sight, out of mind.” When you remove junk food from your kitchen, you won’t be tempted to eat it.
  5. Drink more water. Drinking just 8 ounces of water before each meal can help you feel fuller than you actually are, preventing you from overeating.
