In other hack-related news, Simone Biles‘ private medical records were illegally released and revealed that the five-time Olympic medalist suffers from ADHD.
According to ABC News, Biles was reportedly taking methylphenidate, a stimulant for treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. A fact that the 19-year-old was not ashamed of.
It’s important to point out that drugs such as methylphenidate are banned for Olympic athletes, unless they get a medical waiver.
Meanwhile, the World Anti-Doping Agency confirmed on Tuesday that their database as illegally hacked of information for Olympic athletes for the 2016 Rio games, but they had no comment on whether the files posted were authentic, NBC News noted. The hackers stated that they posted the records to expose American athletes who dominated the Summer games, claiming “that dozens of American athletes had tested positive” for banned substances,” but were “given official approval to use them due to extenuating circumstances.”
“We are going to tell you how Olympic medals are won,” the hackers warned. “We will start with the U.S. team which has disgraced its name by tainted victories. We will also disclose exclusive information about other national Olympic teams later,” they added.
“These criminal acts are greatly compromising the effort by the global antidoping community to re-establish trust in Russia,” WADA’s director general, Olivier Niggli, said Tuesday.
Yet, according to the New York Times, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for President Vladimir V. Putin denied being involved in the hacks.
“It’s simply ruled out,” Mr. Peskov said.
Sure. If you say so.
Biles wasn’t the only athlete affected by this hack. Tennis legend Serena Williams’ records were also released.
Why can’t they just let us be great?
