Although the doors to the famous Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles have re-opened, details have emerged about the how the owner of the restaurant Shanga Hankerson irresponsibly spent the profits. According to witnesses, Hankerson used the profits from his 3 restaurants to support his marijuana habit and sex parties.
Investigators also revealed that at times employees were not paid fully and managers even spent thousands of their own personal money and credit to keep the businesses open.
“He was just stealing money and converting it to his own use,” Josh Waites, Department of Revenue
Hankerson is out on on a $20,000 bond and was arrested on theft counts and charged with Racketeering last month. He owes more than $1 million in unpaid taxes.
