There are few dresses that make fame in history. A royal wedding dress is one of them. There was much hoopla, adoration and press around Kate Middleton‘s Alexander McQueen wedding dress custom designed by Creative Director Sarah Burton. She received much acclaim for the stunning style.
However, five years later, a lawsuit has recently been filed against Alexander McQueen by UK-based bridal company, Christine Kendall. In the lawsuit, the designer says she showed the Duchess of Cambridge sketches prior to the royal wedding, which she believes were inspirations Burton utilized to create the final product.
This isn’t the first attempt to rectify the situation. Christine Kendall originally reached out to Alexander McQueen 13 months after the wedding with no resolution. She also has a YouTube video on how to design a royal wedding dress, showing the similarities and idiosyncrasies of her design, and requesting viewers sound off on whether the dress had been ripped-off by her designs.
Alexander McQueen has released the following public statement:
We are utterly baffled by this legal claim. Christine Kendall first approached us at Alexander McQueen almost four years ago, when we were clear with her that any suggestion Sarah Burton’s design of the royal wedding dress was copied from her designs was nonsense. Sarah Burton never saw any of Ms. Kendall’s designs or sketches and did not know of Ms. Kendall before Ms. Kendall got in touch with us — some 13 months after the wedding. We do not know why Ms. Kendall has raised this again, but there are no ifs, buts or maybes here: this claim is ridiculous.
Beauties, what do you think? Is it a copy or just coincidence?
