You know the old saying: “if you fail to plan then you plan to fail.” This holds true when it comes to weight loss goals. One of the most important steps in your fitness journey is having a game plan. In terms of exercise, you should aim for a minimum of 30 active minutes per day. Additionally, you should develop a nutritional plan that is catered to your age, weight, height and personal fitness goals.

According to Livestrong.com, these are some important steps in developing a nutritional plan”

  1. Figure out how many calories you need to eat to maintain your weight. This can be done using a free online “BMR” calculator. You can find one HERE.
  2. Subtract calories from your daily allowance if your goal is to lose weight. A 500 calorie deficit will net a 1 pound loss per week.
  3. Determine your macronutrients. This involves calculating the number of carbohydrates, fats and protein you need per day to meet your fitness goals.
  4. Plan your meals in advance so you know what you will eat the next day. This will help you stay on track and avoid overeating.
