A 22-year-old woman is charged with murder after police say she lit her newborn baby on fire.

Nothing could explain the reason behind this shocking crime in Pemberton Township, N.J.

Under a deal with the prosecutor, Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier pleaded guilty Monday to the lesser charge of aggravated manslaughter for setting her newborn ablaze in January 2015, Reuters reports.

She was originally charged with first-degree murder.

At the sentencing, scheduled for April 22, the prosecutor will recommend a 30-year prison sentence, which would require Dorvilier to serve at least 85 percent of the prison term, according to the news agency.

Dorvilier, 23, poured a flammable liquid on her daughter and set the newborn on fire in the middle of a road. The police arrived and put out the flames, but it was too late. The infant died hours later at a Philadelphia hospital, CBS News reported.

Dave Joseph, a witness who saw the incident from his window, told CBS:

“We actually didn’t think it was a baby, we just thought it was a fire, somebody dumping everything down there, but when we found out what it was, it was just a nightmare.”

The police arrested Dorvilier at the scene. Her bail was set at $500,000.
