The sixth national Republican Presidential Debate, moderated by Fox Business Network’s Neil Cavuto and Maria Bartiromo, took place on January 14, at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.

But it could have taken place on any schoolyard across the country.

During a lengthy back and forth, front-runners Donald Trump and Ted Cruz traded birther theories—Trump, to prove that Cruz wasn’t eligible for the Top Spot, and Cruz to prove that “I know you are, but what am I.”

Constitutional lawyers and scholars have opined that because Cruz is a naturalized U.S. citizen—his mother gave birth to him in Canada—and not a natural born U.S. citizen, he is ineligible to be President of the United States.

Trump, pulling from the same birther bag of tricks that he used to question whether or not President Barack Obama was eligible since his father was Kenyan, has hoped on the bandwagon quicker than you can say toupee.

This laid the ground for the epic, juvenile showdown Americans were subjected to Thursday night.

Trump argued that Cruz would place the party at risk for a lawsuit that could ultimately disqualify him, so why even cruise down that road.

This time, Cruz was ready for him.

“The Constitution hasn’t changed, Donald’s poll numbers have,” he said to applause.

“The legal issue is quite straightforward, but I would note that the birther theories that Donald has been relying on, some of the more extreme ones insist that you must not only be born on U.S. soil, but have two parents born on U.S. soil,” Cruz continued.

“Under that theory, not only would I be disqualified, Marco Rubio would be disqualified, Bobby Jindal would be disqualified, and interestingly enough, Donald J. Trump would be disqualified because Donald’s mother was born in Scotland.”

Burn.

Trump pointed out that it was a different situation because he was natural born on U.S. soil, to which Grandpa Munster Cruz had no reply.

Except…

“If this all works out, I’m happy to consider naming you as VP so if you happen to be right, you can get the top job at the end of the day,” Cruz half-joked.
