“Sweet Potato Patti” aka Patti LaBelle is the latest living legend to share her story on the next episode of Oprah’s Master Class.

The 71-year-old looks flawless as she recounts stories from earlier in her career as the lead singer of LaBelle.

She shared that the group made history when in 1974, they became the first rock and roll act to perform at the Metropolitan Opera House simply because she asked the promoter who excitedly said ‘yes’.

“Sometimes you think you’re not worthy…you’re afraid of yourself; get out of your own way” she said.

“You’re worthy of anything you know you can do well. Just ask the question, don’t punk out. [Go] get that, ‘yes.’”

Patti got emotional when speaking about her three sisters, Vivian, Barbara and Jackie who all lost their battles to cancer.

While her youngest sister Jackie was in the hospital, she asked Patti to make her an egg sandwich. Even though Patti lived five minutes away from the hospital, she had just gotten off the road from touring and told her sister she would do it the next day.

Unfortunately, as Patti was on her way to the hospital with the sandwich, she learned her sister had passed.

“I still hold on to that, it was such a minor thing” she says remorsefully. “Live your life today because you have no idea what could happen in the next hour of this day. I was busy touring and I was too tired to make that sandwich that day… Do everything now that you can for your family. Life is strange, take advantage of each day like it’s your last.
