Texas Rewrites History, Wipes KKK, Jim Crow & Slavery From Textbooks

Texas residents are up in arms at a change in children’s textbooks that will be coming in the fall for the next school year. After a change to the books was voted on in 2010, history textbooks will hardly discuss segregation, the presence of the Ku Klux Klan or Jim Crow. Furthermore, in information presented about the Civil War, the book will attribute the cause of the war to states battling over their respective rights, rather than the institution of slavery. Confederate Flag Being Decided On By SC House Of Representatives

The state Senate may have passed their ruling to take down the Confederate flag from Capitol Grounds almost unanimously, but the House of Representatives is still far more divided on the issue. Dozens of amendment drafts on the flag have been circulated and many have come out to protest on both sides, outside of the Columbia State House. Read more at the New York Times.

Peace In The Middle East? Afghan Officials Meet With The Taliban To Stabilize The Country

Only a day after their meetings were announced, direct correspondence between the Afghan government and the Taliban have come to an end. They have agreed to reconvene after Ramadan in Pakistan. The groups are hoping to build diplomacy as the Taliban is looking to reduce terrorism-related sanctions brought on by the United States. Read more at the LA Times.
