Wolf Blitzer tried it.

On Tuesday, the CNN host interviewed community organizer Deray McKesson, a rising star in the modern day Civil Rights movement, questioning him on the events in Baltimore. When Blitzer tried to push McKesson to denounce the protesters as violent and reckless, McKesson politely shut him down.

“The people that have been violent since August have been the police,” he tells Blitzer.

Unsatisfied, Blitzer brings up statistics about arrests, injured cops and vehicle fires saying, “there’s no excuse for that kind of violence, right?”

McKesson quips right back,

“There’s no excuse for the seven people the Baltimore police have killed in the last year, either, right?”

Undeterred, Blitzer basically comes out and says that McKesson is not saying what he wants him to say.

“I want to hear you say that there should be peaceful protest, not violent protest, in the tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King.”

Then McKesson drops the proverbial knowledge mic on him.

“You are suggesting this idea that broken windows are worse than broken spines,” he tells Blitzer.

Boom!
