Black Twitter Reacts To Chelsea Handler’s ’12 Years A Slave’ Tweets

Chelsea Handler got into some hot water last night after tweeting a plug for her book, shortly after Lupita Nyong’o’s historic “Best Supporting Actress” Academy Award win.

The comedian and talk show conducted a Twitter takeover for Huffington Post and tweeted “Congratulation #lupita” and promoted her book “Uganda Be Kidding Me” that will be out later this year. Many took offense to the post and were confused over whether or not she was trying to connect Lupita’s win to a joke:

After “12 Years A Slave” won for “Best Picture,” Handler decided to plug her book again. This time, congratulating the film, making it even worse. Black Twitter was not here for it, or her earlier Lupita tweet, and weren’t amused by Handler’s carelessness.

Handler and her tweets are a great example of why diversity is needed in comedy. We can agree that folks can do better, including Variety Magazine, which shortened “12 Years A Slave” to just “slave” in their tweet.

There was still an overflow of positive support for Lupita on Twitter, though, including a lovely tweet from Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Just last week, Paula and Robin confirmed their separation, so this comes as a surprise. It may be a little too early to call them a couple, and we know Robin is not trying to go down without a fight. So, we’ll see how this unfolds.

Kanye West’s DONDA Music Group is now a part of Roc Nation.

The “Yeezus” rapper’s music label, which is a part of his DONDA company named after his late mother Donda West, collaborated with Jay Z’s Roc Nation to form a creative partnership. Roc Nation will now oversee his musical endeavors, including Kanye’s international tours and other projects.

Aside from ‘Ye’s controversial fashion choices, he’s also had a few fashion successes since unveiling DONDA in 2009. Kanye designed the latest edition of Nike Air Yeezys and designed the marketing and campaign work for his “Yeezus” tour. Not to mention, he created a footwear collection with Louis Vuitton and designed the tour and packaging for the “Watch The Throne” tour he had with Jay Z.

We can only guess what other projects he has up his sleeve.

When will these celebs learn they have to pay their taxes like everyone else?!

Lil’ Wayne is the latest rapper to try to dodge paying taxes. According to TMZ, Weezy owes nearly $12 million in taxes to the government, which is from the $5,843,952 he didn’t pay in 2011 and the $6,311,132 he never paid in 2012. He’s owed taxes before in 2008 — $7 million at that — but he cleared that debt in 2012.

For a man reportedly worth $135 million, why is he having such a hard time paying $12 million? But, the better question: How is he really paying for all of his children?
