I am so unbelievably excited to write this post, because I absolutely love R. Kelly! So, you heard it here first, R. Kelly has a new album coming out in December! SWOON! Now before you judge me, roll your eyes or whatever, let me remind you that I’m from the South Side of Chicago. R. Kelly and his amazing music has been a huge part of my life and I adore his music, and always will.

There’s something about growing up in Chi-town that instills you with a certain sense of soul. When you’re growing up as a kid your parents teach you how to step, The Isley Brothers play regularly on the radio, and R. Kelly is a hometown hero. I vividly remember my first slow dance at a house party to “Your Body’s Callin’,” and I could share memories of how R. Kelly has provided the soundtrack for my life for days.
So, here it is folks! The exclusive sneak preview trailer to Kels’ new album “Black Panties.” (Yes, he’s baaack!) For those of you who weren’t Chicago savvy enough to appreciate “Love Letter”, Kels is back to his original greatness. It’s a return to the man who has provided the blueprint of R&B for over a decade now–and from the trailer, it has to be amazing.
In the video, R. discloses that the title of the album was inspired by a woman who threw a pair of black panties that landed on his head while he was singing “Your Body’s Callin’” on stage at a concert. He goes on to admit that he’s been inspired to reclaim the sound he invented. Best line in the trailer:
“To really get myself back in to the mode of R. Kelly, Kels, and in order for to do that I had to really listen and go to school in my studio by looking at what’s happening now, from rappers to singers, and what I’ve found by doing that, is they’ve really been studying me!”
True that Kels. Take that Dream, Trey Songz, Breezy…I could go on.
The album is set to release on December 10th.
