According to Gill, the assault occurred on August 23, 2011. In the lawsuit, which the New Edition member filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Gill states that he was conversing with friends in the dining/cocktail area of the hotel at about 11 p.m. on the night of the altercation. Without provocation, an unnamed Caucasian assailant allegedly began hurling racially inflammatory remarks at the performer.

When Gill reportedly tried to fend off the altercation, the stranger allegedly pushed him with such brute force that he wound up getting slammed against a heated lamp that resulted in not only extensive bodily injury but pain and suffering.

Gill is reportedly suing his assailant for medical expenses and loss of earnings because he claims he was unable to perform his duties as an entertainer.

According to the 47-year-old Grammy Award-nominated R&B veteran, not once did any of the hotel staff intervene during the altercation. Gill also alleges that the hotel’s cocktail lounge bartending staff also did not prevent the assailant from becoming inebriated, which allegedly led to his attack.

According to the lawsuit, Gill is seeking $1 million in damages for the alleged wrongs inflicted upon him by the assailant.
