Strawberry Letter: Frustrated With Boyfriend’s Health Issues

Dear Steve and Shirley,

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 4 years. He is 47 and I am 41. He is a great man. He treats me well and we get along great. We have not had any real big issues. Our one issue is that our sex life has diminished in the past 6 months. At first I thought he was cheating, but he was diagnosed with hypertension in March and has been going back and forth with different medications. He says that the problem is the medications.

I didn’t believe him at first, but after some research and him finally talking to me about it. I now believe him. I know that it is difficult for him to talk about it, but I am a woman and expect to talk about everything. I tell him that there are other things that we can do, but he doesn’t seem to want to. I guess what is bothering me the most is that he doesn’t act like it bothers him at all. I love this man and want things to work out. I feel like he doesn’t want me and I am not attractive to him anymore, even though I know it is the medications. I can’t seem to shake those feelings. He tells me that he does and I see the little things that he does but I miss the physical attention.

I don’t want anyone else but him. How can I deal with the way I feel and still be there for him to let him know that I support him regardless?
