A Southwest DeKalb High School star student has decided not to attend her own graduation because it’s being held in a church, more specifically at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, which is led by embattled pastor Bishop Eddie Long.

Southwest DeKalb’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for May 25 at New Birth.

Nahkoura Mahnassi, 16, and her mother, Alisha Brown, told WSB-TV it’s a poor choice on the schools part because not everyone is a Christian and they feel like the ceremony should be held at the school or at a neutral venue like the Georgia Dome.

Mahnassi has a 3.8 GPA and is in the Beta Club and the magnet program.

As we previously reported, Eddie Long was accused of sexual misconduct by four young men from the church and settled the case out of court last year despite vowing to fight the charges.
