Maya Angelou Disappointed With Common For Using The “N-Word”

Maya Angelou is surprised and both disappointed in rapper Common for using the “N-Word” in a song in which he also uses her poetry. The world renown and influential Pulitzer Prize-nominee feels very strongly about the usage of the negative term and has labeled it “vulgar and dangerous.”

“I had no idea that Common was using the piece we had done together on [a track] in which he and has labeled it also used the ‘N’ word numerous times. I’m surprised and disappointed. I don’t know why he chose to do that. I had never heard him use that [word] before. I admired him so because he wasn’t singing the line of least resistance.” said Angelou to The New York Post.

I’ll go on record to say that I’ve liked everything that has come out from this album so far and this is shaping up to be Common’s best album ever. According to the tracklist this is the first song on the album and there is no better way to set the tone than with words from the a poem from Ms Angelou.

Maya Angelou Launches Unscripted TV Series

Maya Angelou is launching an unscripted lifestyle series with the Hallmark Channel. The 13-episode series is called The Spirit Table will feature the host and well-known guests sharing life stories and cooking.

The show is slated for prime-time airing and is expected to be launched in early 2012.
