Conrad Murray, James DeBarge on Same Cell Block

Michael Jackson’s former doctor and former brother-in-law are reportedly on the same cell block in Los Angeles.

The King of Pop’s personal physician Conrad Murray is said to be neighbors at Los Angeles County Men’s Jail with singer James DeBarge, who was famously married to Janet Jackson for a year in the 1980s.

Murray has been behind bars since he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter last year for administering the fatal dose of propofol that killed Michael in 2009.

TMZ is now reporting that Murray has been locked up in the same block as DeBarge, who is currently jailed on assault and drug charges and is being housed in the Administrative Segregation along with Murray.

DeBarge’s lawyer, Spencer Vodnoy, tells the website his client is “really upset” by the coincidence as he was previously close to the King of Pop.

After approximately 10 hours of deliberation at the Los Angeles Superior Courts, the jury has found Dr. Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Murray, 58, faces a sentence of up to four years in prison. He could also lose his medical license. The judge presiding over the case ordered that Murray be denied bail and ordered Murray to stay in jail until sentencing on November 29.

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, just months before he was set to launch a comeback with a series of sold-out concerts in London.

The televised trial featured testimony from medical experts, household employees and Murray’s former girlfriends, among others.

The the trial of the doctor accused of killing Michael Jackson has finally begun.

The trial of Dr. Conrad Murray officially started today in Los Angeles. Murray stands accused of killing the King of Pop with an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol.

Several of MJ’s family members were in attendance, including Michael’s father Joseph, mother Katherine, sisters LaToya and Janet, and brothers Jermaine, Randy and Tito. LaToya carried a sunflower, Michael’s favorite flower.

Dr. Murray arrived holding hands with his mother. Murray has pleaded not guilty.

Conrad Murray Pleads Not Guilty In MJ Death Case

Exactly 19 months after Michael Jackson’s death, Dr. Conrad Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Murray was arraigned today in a Los Angeles court room where he entered the plea.

“I’m an innocent man, your honor,” Murray said after the judge asked for his plea. The judge asked Murray for his plea again, to which Murray simply responded “Not guilty.”

Murray’s trial is set to begin on March 28th. If convicted, Murray faces four years in prison.

Dr. Conrad Murray, the late Michael Jackson’s personal physician, will be in a Los Angeles courtroom today for the first day of a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to hold a full trial.

He has been charged with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the June 25, 2009 death of Michael Jackson.

More that two dozen witnesses are expected to be called including This Is It choreographer Kenny Ortega.

Murray’s lawyers have said the doctor did inject the 50-year-old pop icon with the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol in an attempt to combat Jackson’s chronic insomnia, but that the dose “should have” not been enough to kill him.

Katherine Jackson, who is the guardian of MJ’s three children, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the promoter of a concert series her son was supposed to give in London in 2009.

Katherine charged AEG for not giving Michael appropriate medical care during rehearsals and for negligence in allowing Dr. Conrad Murray to care exclusively for her son.

TMZ has obtained a copy of a legal document that Joe Jackson has sent to Dr. Conrad Murray — a prerequisite to filing a wrongful death lawsuit … in which Joe claims Dr. Murray had been drinking at a strip club hours before he allegedly administered a fatal dose of Propofol to Michael Jackson.

According to the document, “On June 25, 2009, prior to treating Michael Jackson, defendant was at a ’strip club’ called ‘Sam’s Hofbrau’ in Los Angeles where he had been ‘drinking.’” The doc goes on: “It was reckless for him to ‘drink’ prior to administering anesthesia to Michael Jackson. He concealed his conduct from Michael Jackson.”

TMZ has learned Dr. Conrad Murray’s legal defense is that Michael Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of Propofol.

Multiple sources familiar with the strategy tell TMZ the defense argument goes like this:

- At around 10:50 AM, Dr. Murray gave Jackson 25 mg of Propofol from a 20 ml bottle — that’s only about 1/8 of the bottle.

- The dose Dr. Murray administered would keep someone asleep for only 5 to 10 minutes, But the Propofol, along with the Ativan and Versed that was already in MJ’s system, had a synergistic effect that put Jackson to sleep for a longer period of time.

- For the next hour, Dr. Murray stayed in the room and was on the phone for much of the time. Dr. Murray didn’t leave the room to make the calls because MJ liked activity in the room, regularly sleeping with the lights on and cartoons blaring on the TV.

- At around noon, Dr. Murray left the room for approximately two minutes to go to the bathroom. While he was gone, the defense believes Jackson suddenly awakened and was frustrated he had spent nearly 9 hours trying in vain to sleep. The defense theory — Jackson took the 20 ml bottle of Propofol and self-injected the remaining contents through the IV, causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.

- Dr. Murray walked back in the room and saw Jackson with his eyes open and pupils dilated. Dr. Murray dropped the phone (he was speaking with his girlfriend) and began administering CPR.

The defense will argue Michael Jackson was a long-time Propofol addict — something TMZ first reported shortly after the singer’s death. As one source said, Jackson liked the sensation of Propofol being administered by IV, adding, “Michael liked to push it.”

REPORT: Conrad Murray Stopped CPR On Michael Jackson To Pick Up Drug Vials

Dr. Conrad Murray’s defense team accused prosecutors Monday of leaking a police report to a reporter to force the team to reveal their defense strategy in the involuntary manslaughter case stemming from Michael Jackson’s death.

The “death investigation police report” includes a statement from a witness who said Murray stopped resuscitation efforts on Jackson so he could collect drug vials, said Miranda Sevcik, a spokeswoman for defense lawyer Ed Chernoff.

“The report is written to show guilt, not as an unbiased account,” Sevcik said.

The document includes a statement from Alberto Alvarez, Jackson’s logistics director, she said.

“We note that this statement was given more than two months after Michael Jackson’s death and is inconsistent with a statement he [Alvarez] gave the police the day after Mr. Jackson was taken to the hospital,” Chernoff said. “Further, his statement does not match up with much of the physical evidence found at the scene.”

Sandi Gibbons, the spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney, said prosecutors did not provide the document to The Associated Press, which initially reported on the document.

“We haven’t given anybody anything,” Gibbons said.

Murray, the pop star’s personal physician, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009.

The Los Angeles coroner concluded Jackson died of “acute propofol intoxication.”

Murray told investigators he gave Jackson propofol, a powerful anesthetic, to help him sleep.

The autopsy report said investigators found “multiple opened bottles of propofol” in Jackson’s home.

Although the police report suggested Murray was trying to hide the bottles, Sevcik said the doctor told investigators about them and where they could find them in a bag in a bedroom closet.

Police did not seal Jackson’s rented mansion for several days after his death, she said. Family members and others carried out boxes and a moving van pulled up to the home at one point, she said.

Chernoff said he expects more leaks from prosecutors as Murray’s preliminary hearing, just 10 days away, approaches.

Murray, who was with Jackson when he died, is charged with involuntary manslaughter by acting “without malice” but also “without due caution and circumspection.”

Janet Jackson is speaking out about her brother Michael’s death, blaming Dr. Conrad Murray, whom she says should no longer be allowed to practice medicine.

“He was the one that was administering,” she tells Robin Roberts in an ABC News special, In the Spotlight, airing Wednesday. “I think he is responsible.”

Dr. Conrad Murray, who served as Michael’s personal physician, remains at the center of a manslaughter investigation into the King of Pop’s June 25 death. Jackson died at the age of 50 of lethal levels of propofol, court documents show. Murray has admitted to administering the anesthetic propofol, but has denied giving Michael anything that should have killed him. “Please don’t worry,” he tells supporters in a YouTube message this past August. “I will be fine. I have done all I could do. I told the truth”

In her ABC News interview, Janet, 43, says “it’s been a tough year. You have your days where it’s just really — it’s hard to believe. And a day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about him.”

She recalls to Roberts the day she was told her brother had suffered cardiac arrest.

“I was at my house in New York. You know, another day. Another morning. And I get a call … [my assistant] said, ‘Your brother’s been taken to the hospital. It’s on CNN right now,’” she says. “I called everyone’s. There’s a line busy or — someone wasn’t picking up. I spoke to mother. I spoke to [brother] Tito. I spoke to my nephew Austin. I spoke to my sister La Toya.”

“I told them to call me when they got to the hospital,” she goes on. “And I remember thinking nobody’s calling me back, so I tried calling again, and that’s how I found out that he was no longer … I couldn’t believe it.”

When she learned that he had passed, “it just didn’t ring true to me. It felt like a dream.”
