Isaac Newton Farris Jr., nephew of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., has been named president of The Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
King founded the civil rights organization in 1957.
As we previously reported, the Rev. Howard Creecy, who had been SCLC president, died last month.
Farris’ appointment comes after months of infighting amongst SCLC officials. King’s daughter Bernice declined the SCLC presidency last January because of the infighting.
