Strawberry Letter 23: Confused

Please help me morning crew. I am a 27 year old, business owner with a college degree. I met this guy while we were in college. We became good friends and always did our work together. Often times people would ask if we were talking or messing around. At the time we weren’t, we were strictly friends he had a girlfriend and everything.

Fast forward 2 and half years, he had a child on the way, and was dating a girl and he called me out of the blue when he was coming back to school early from break for a game he had. We started messing around then. He now lives out of town, but we still see each other kind of often. I met his baby several times while she was a baby, but now that she’s almost four, he introduced me to her as Auntie…We still mess around from time to time, and we keep up with each other’s lives but am I someone he considers special or important.

I’ve met his mother, daughter, his friends and his girlfriends in between our times together have always known about me and that I was very important to him. What do I do? Is he just around for the sex? Does he want something maybe later (I am 3 years older than him)? Why does he keep me around if he doesn’t want a relationship? I am partially in love with him…what do I do?

Steve please help me. I been dating this man for three years. When we first started to date everything was good. The sex was great as well. Two years into the relationship he asked to marry me, so i said yes. The first thing I did was call up all my family and friends to give them the good news. I asked him when was he going to tell his family and when was I going to meet them?

We’ve been together a year and I have not met or saw one picture of your family. He told me in due time I will meet them. I’d been hearing the story for so long I was sick of hearing it. My heart dropped without giving her a chance to say anything I hung up. Tears roll down my eyes. The man I love is a female. That explains sex in the dark and never meeting his, well her family… please tell me what to do…should I stay or leave.

Strawberry Letter 23: Fighting Temptation

Brother Steve, I’m needing advice on a personal matter. I am 45 years of age and engaged to a beautiful and wonderful woman. I’m unemployed and unease about this situation, but she is fine about this because she believe and understand our GOD will provide employment, despite my past drug addiction and criminal background. Yes, I’ve been drug free for 3 years without attending any NA programs. Now, we live together in her house with her 26 years of age daughter who works and attend college. The problem is when the daughter decides to parade around the house in underwear. I’ve confronted her many of times about this disrespectful behavior and it’s always, “This you like what you see remark?” It’s been a situation where she has made sexual advances. What must I do about her unwanted advances and disrespectful behavior towards me and her mother whom I love very much. Please help, I’m fighting temptation.

Actress, comedienne and TV host Mo’Nique won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Precious.”

She beat out Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Penelope Cruz, as she did at the Golden Globes.

This was Mo’Nique’s first Oscar nomination and she joins a small sorority of Black women who have won Oscars. Hattie McDaniel claimed best supporting actress in 1939’s “Gone with the Wind,” Whoopi Goldberg won best supporting actress for 1990’s “Ghost,” Halle Berry took best actress for 2001’s “Monster’s Ball” and Jennifer Hudson got best supporting actress for 2006’s “Dreamgirls.”

Ron Banks, singer and a founding member of veteran R&B group the Dramatics, died March 4  at his Detroit home of a reported heart attack. He was 58.

Originally a vocal sextet known as the Dynamics in the early O60s, the group changed its name and became a quintet comprised of Banks, William Howard, Larry Demps, Willie Ford and Elbert Wilkins. The Dramatics scored its first R&B-charting single (No. 43) in 1967 on the Sport label with “All Because of You.” But it wasn’t until four years later that the Dramatics broke into national consciousness with the 1971 Stax/Volt hit “Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get,” which peaked at No. 3 R&B and No. 9 pop. The Dramatics claimed an R&B No. 1 the following year with “In the Rain.”

Between 1972 and 1980, the Dramatics also recorded for ABC and MCA, notching seven more top 10 R&B singles. Those songs include a cover of “Me and Mrs. Jones,” “You’re Fooling You,” “Be My Girl” and “Welcome Back Home.” Over the ensuing years, the Dramatics underwent several personnel changes, the most notable occurring in 1973 when L.J. Reynolds and Lenny Mayes replaced Howard and Wilkins in 1973.

Banks, whose sweet falsetto helped give the Dramatics its signature sound, was a Detroit native who was born May 10, 1951. He is survived by his wife Sandy and six children. Banks is the fourth Dramatics member to pass away following the deaths of Wilkins (1992), Howard (2000) and James Mack Brown (2008).

Strawberry Letter 23: I Am Down Cause He Can’t Get Up

Dear Steve and Shirley,

I was married for 16 years, separated for 6, and now divorced for 4 years. For 3 years I had been celibate until my first love contacted me to tell me that he still loved me and was always thinking about me. We had known each other for 20 years and the feelings were mutual. Because it had been a minute since someone had made my “bed rock” I was naturally expecting my first few encounters with him to be awesome… THEY WERE NOT!!!!

Strawberry Letter 23: I Want To Have Fun

Dear Shirley and Steve,

I am a 19 year old female with a 29 year old man. We’ve been together for 7 months and we just got an apartment together. His background is that he’s been divorced and has 3 younger kids. On the other hand before I met him I was stripping at a club.

He met me there and we started dating, and when it got serious he asked me to choose him or the club. So I changed my lifestyle around and chose him. My issue is that I still want to have fun. I’m in college now and I told him I want to go out to clubs and parties (not strip clubs) and have fun.

When he was my age he did all of that, so why can’t I do the same thing. I know I’m in a relationship and I can control myself but why can’t  I go out to college parties and clubs? What should I do?
