Strawberry Letter: What Is Wrong With Me?

I am a married mother of two that had an affair with someone from my past 2 years ago. I love my husband but at times we have our ups and downs like in any marriage. A few years ago I was contacted by an ex-boyfriend from my childhood. We were really young and never consummated our relationship because we were just kids. Well, we were in constant contact for a few weeks and finally met up to see each other after all of these years.

I truly liked this guy when I was a young girl. He was such a sweet person. Well we had an affair (we are both married) and I cannot get this man out of my head no matter what I do. Even though he broke it off with me because he knew that if we kept things going we would eventually get caught, I still have strong feelings for this man. We keep in touch once a month by text or maybe a phone call here and there. I have tried to just not contact him but then I will get a text or call from him just to say hi. He does not ask for anything other than to ask how I am. He does not ask me for sex or to meet up with him. So it’s just us catching up a bit.

I was so ready to leave my husband if this man told me that he wanted me to. He did not of course. So over time it has gotten easier but I just cannot stop loving this man. We had a very intense relationship for about 6 months. I know that we will never be the way were but I just want to get this man out of my head. I will never confess to this as it would destroy both of our families. I just wonder if this man ever felt anything for me other than lust. He has told me that he cares for me deeply and that is why he stepped back from things. I am not sure if that is true or if he just wanted to end things with me and was not sure how to do it. Either way, I need closure from somewhere.

I just want your take on this.

Dear Steve and Shirley,

I have been married to my husband for 3 years, together for 8. We have had a great relationship so far, but I have this one pet peeve that I can’t get over. He is a gregarious man, gets along with men and women of all ages and races and shapes and sizes. Needless to say, he gets along well with women as well as men. He has always had female friends at work that he would talk about as well as other team members, but this was was a little different.

He talked about her saying that she was just like him, they have the same personality, they get along so well, she is funny, “we have such great chemistry” was the most difficult to hear. Overall, she’s beautiful, funny, and has the same likes and laughs at the same jokes. He talks about her regularly and now sometimes he comes in the house talking on the phone with her. He doesn’t hide with the phone, but it makes me uncomfortable and feel that this is a breeding ground for becoming too close to a female co-worker.

I have addressed this with him and let him know that it makes me feel uncomfortable that he is building a close relationship with her. He says she is just like one of his male coworkers and a member of the work team. He said she is skinny with no body, so she doesn’t appear sexy to him, but she has bigger boobs than I do, so I don’t see how that is even realistic. I told him before and today I told him that I don’t want him to talk with her anymore on the phone outside of work hours. He was very upset saying that I should trust him and that no matter what they always remain professional and platonic. He will not stop talking with her even though it makes me uncomfortable.

What is happening? Does he not respect my needs as his wife? He is the one calling her, not otherwise. He calls himself her life coach. I just want to be respected.

Please help.

Dear Steve and Shirley,

I am desperate for some advice. I am married to a man now for over 3 years. When we met 4 years ago he was about 100 lbs lighter than he is now. He led a active lifestyle, as well as a pleasure to be around. He made it easy to converse with. After the first year things just went south… literally. I now have a man who does nothing but eat… sleep… and poop allllllll day long.

He has a job that requires him to work until midnight most nights of the week and on weekends, however sometimes he gets two days off in a row, and will sleep all day. He has gained a lot of weight and is very sensitive and offended when I mention getting in shape and taking better care of himself. He can not hold a conversation without falling asleep on me whether in person or on the phone. He stays in the bathroom because he has to poop constantly. I sometimes tip toe around the room in the morning to keep him from waking so that he doesn’t get up and stink the bathroom up before I finish preparing for work.

I’ve tried to convince him to go to the doctors but he doesn’t stay awake long enough to make an appointment and if I make it for him he won’t go. His eating habits are awful. He has to have eggs and toast, potatoes, toast, and he doesn’t try to eat in moderation. He always goes back for seconds. He is currently on a diet, but the only diet I actually see him on is the “can’t wait to eat diet” and he’s defeating the purpose of even purchasing the diet plan.

He won’t weigh himself so there’s no way to know if there has been any progress because there isn’t any physical evidence. I am so disgusted. Our sex life is non existent. I find it difficult to enjoy due to the size of his stomach and getting on top gives me the feeling of laying on a medicine ball. I’m trying not to be mean, but I have gone from being sympathetic to pissed off.

Please help…. I am so mad sometimes that when he sits on the edge of the bed and rocks back and forth because he’s sleep I feel like pushing him on the floor… I pray constantly that God will allow me to see him the way that he sees him, but that’s a hard task to do, the embarrassment I feel when I’m in public with him is overwhelming and I know I shouldn’t be that way.

I don’t know what to do.

Dear Shirley and Steve Harvey,

Several years ago my wife and I were separated. During this time we both were intimate with other people. We have since reconnected, have put that behind us and completely cut off any past lovers. While out on a business trip with one of my recent employees, we were talking about women in general and sharing stories and it was all fun and games until he made a reference to the “best he ever had” then described my wife to a Tee all the way down to a unique birthmark she has in a most private place.

Dear Shirley and Steve,

I have been married for six years, and my husband is a part of a Greek letter organization. My husband and his frat brothers love getting together to “fraternize” as he calls it. During these moments, they either attend strip clubs or have parties where strippers are present, go on out of town trips to Miami or Vegas, or, on a regular weekend, hang out at the local clubs.

I am a part of a Greek organization myself so I understand the importance of bonding activities, but I think their activities go too far, to the point where I feel very disrespected as his wife. Dear Morning Show,

I have a problem. My spouse is a strong black woman. My spouse cleans, cooks, does laundry and takes care of the kids. I know you may be wondering where the problem lies, well the strong black woman is…My husband! I know it sounds crazy but I feel its not setting the proper expectations for our kids.

My wife and I have been married for 3 ½ years. We both are 30 years old. She has 5 kids with 4 other men and 1 with me which makes 6 in all. I used to have problems with 1 of the other fathers, but the kids are not the issue here. Good morning Morning Show,

I am a 24 year old wife and mother of two. I have only been married a year and I am already on the edge and ready to get a divorce. Last year after my husband and I got married I found some emails from some of my husbands “female friends” and his ex girlfriend where he had told them the only reason he got married was because the military gave him more money. Needless to say I was pissed and was ready to seperate but after his begging pleading and crying I decided that I would stay.

The very next month I saw emails and text messages between him and his ex girlfriend where she was totally disrespecting me and he allowed her to do it. Again I went off but did not threaten to leave or anything I just snapped. He left on deployment for 6 months about 2 months after he returned I went to the doctor and found out that I had contracted an STD. Of course he denied being with anyone while he was gone and I know that I had not been with anyone else. That was the first crack in our relationship. He then turned very mean and would randomly get upset with me and I had no idea why and I often found out via Facebook that he was upset with me.

Recently I just picked up his phone and saw that he and a female “friend” had been exchanging pictures of body parts that should not be shown. Even though he has never hit me physically that hurt as if he punched me. I confronted him about it and he made up every reason for why it was okay. I am really on edge and stuck between staying and going. I really don’t want to be anybody’s fool but I do love my husband.

What should I do?

Hello Steve & Shirley:

I’m a 29 year old female with a big problem. I have been in a long term relationship with a great guy. My problem is not with him. The problem is me. I have stepped outside the relationship twice. The first time was 5 years ago. I was in college and I took this guy’s virginity (BIG MISTAKE). After our encounter, he wanted me to leave my boyfriend and be his girl, but I didn’t want to. The relationship I’m in now is rocky because he’s broke and he is still trying to figure out who he is as a man. He’s a college graduate, but he can’t provide for us financially. I’m a CEO Executive Assistant and I try to be supportive until he finds a job, but it’s hard when I have so many other options to choose from (Entrepreneurs, Vice Presidents, Police Officers). I’m not a whore. I just like the attention I get from men. My boyfriend doesn’t show me the type of attention I like. Not necessarily in the bed (no problems there). After 10 years of marriage, 9 months ago, I found out my husband cheated on me with a coworker. Although I suspected, he felt so guilty, he confessed. We have gone to counseling, and he is really REALLY trying.

Since he’s military, I have kept this “secret” from getting out so he does not get into any trouble. (….And No Steve, I did not keep it a secret because of the money/benefits – because I make way more than him and have no reservations about being a single parent or my ability to make it on my own).

Seeing the effort my husband is putting out to get things right with me and our family, I am able start forgiving him. But because I have to keep this secret, I can’t help but feel like the other woman walks away free and clear of any consequence. When I found out, I did confront her, and like the coward she is, she denied it. It angers me that she gets to walk away from this situation without consequence.

Please help me find some peace/resolve with this situation, because everytime I see her, I want nothing more than to let everyone know that she is just a desperate trick and not this sweet innocent person she has everyone believing she is.
