Radio host, author and activist Michael Baisden appeared on Rev. Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show “Politics Nation” last night where the two discussed the GOP, the upcoming presidential election and more.

The Occupy Wall Street movement is spreading all across the country, including Atlanta, and radio host, author and activist Michael Baisden recently paid a visit to lower Manhattan to interview several of the protesters.

Baisden, well known for his social activism in 2007 when he spearheaded the “Jena 6″ march, hosts “The Michael Baisden Show” every day from 3pm to 7pm right here on Majic 107.5 / 97.5.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People this week will make an inquiry of the United States Justice Department into the scheduled execution of Troy Davis in Savannah, Georgia.

The rights group is pushing for a stay of execution.

Davis was convicted and sentenced to death for the fatal 1989 shooting and killing of a Georgia Police officer, Mark MacPhail.

A concerted effort has arisen, from lawmakers and rights groups, to change the minds of the five-member Georgia Board of Parole and Probation to stay the September 21 execution.

There is uncertainty surrounding the case. Questions abound, even at this late date, on Davis’ involvement in the MacPhail killing. Seven out of nine eye witnesses have recanted their stories.

Virginia Congressman Bobby Scott contends that “It is a bad day in America when you have an inconclusive case and you have to put somebody to death on inconclusive evidence.”

The black Congressman has been opposed to the death penalty since 1978. He sits on the House Crime Sub-Committee. Scott says, “seven of the nine witnesses have recanted their testimony and one of the remaining two is an actual suspect of the murder.”

“There needs to be a stay of execution,” said Hillary Shelton, senior vice president for advocacy and policy for the NAACP. “There is too much evidence that points to contradictions in preceding testimony.”

Organizations like Amnesty International and the NAACP are also urging people to make their concerns known to the Georgia Parole and Probation board.

Walker will be on an American ship with 34 passengers, including an 86-year-old whose parents died in the Holocaust, reports the New York Times.

Remembering growing up in Georgia during the Jim Crow era, Walker said:

“The Gaza Flotilla is the Freedom Ride of this era…We prayed for people to come to break through the Klan, the racist police, the white citizens’ councils, to come and see what we suffered with every day. We must oppose oppression with every ounce of our blood. We must go and see what is happening and join our stories to their stories. We do this especially for the youth. It may take the rest of our lives, but we will start now.”

One year ago, nine activists in a flotilla of six boats were killed when Israeli commandos boarded a Turkish boat in international waters off the coast of Gaza. Among the dead was an American citizen of Turkish descent. The incident severely strained relations between Turkey and Israel.

In an attempt to highlight the need for America to become more heavily involved in the peace process, the American flotilla that Walker will travel on has been named “The Audacity of Hope,” after a book by President Obama of the same name.

Israel has already announced that it plans to intercept the flotilla before it reaches Gaza’s shores.

While it was reported that music execs weren’t pleased with Beyonce’s album “4,” she overwhelmed them with 72 tracks to choose from for the album.

“When label staff leave Beyonce to get on with things, they tend not to interfere when she’s making an album.[...] But they weren’t prepared for the sheer volume of material she presented to them. She’s clearly been very productive. Now they have the hard job of going through all the music and deciding what will make (the album).”

Many celebrities and public figures are taking to Twitter to announce very personal things happening in their lives.

The latest is CNN anchor Don Lemon who recently tweeted that he’s gay to his close to 90,000 followers. Lemon made the announcement before his book Transparent hits shelves on June 16.

Lemon said that while many of his close friends and colleagues knew, he was still a bit scared to go public with his sexual identity because of the stigma in the black community.

“It’s quite different for an African-American male,” he said. “It’s about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You’re taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away.”

The AJC reports that House Bill 87 empowers police to investigate the immigration status of certain suspects. The measure also sets new hiring requirements for employers and penalizes people who transport or harbor illegal immigrants in Georgia, which according to estimates is the seventh-highest among the states with approximately 425,000 illegals.

Deal campaigned for governor last year on bringing tough, Arizona-style immigration laws to Georgia and called the bill a historic moment, while opponents of the measure said they are working on drafting a lawsuit to challenge the law. Opponents of the bill also argue that like Arizona, Georgia’s bill will lead to economic boycotts of the state.

Last year, a federal judge put some of the most controversial parts of Arizona’s law on hold after the Obama administration argued they were pre-empted by federal law.

President Barack Obama recently called Georgia’s HB 87 a “mistake.”

LeBron James said he was sorry on Wednesday night (May 11th).

A year to the day after a game 5 debacle against the very same Boston Celtics, where James took tremendous criticism for allegedly quitting on the court in a 120-88 rout, he apologized to fans, family and friends he left behind in Cleveland:

“The way it panned out with all the friends and family and the fans back home, I apologize for the way it happened. I knew this opportunity was once in a lifetime. To be able to come down here and pair with two guys and this organization — in order for me to move on with my career, that team that we just defeated, we had to go through them.”

After a “decision” that shook the landscape of the NBA, a premature (some would argue immature) celebratory pat-on-the-back style post-signing pep rally, a tumultuous regular season filled with blood, sweat and tears in the locker room, the much-maligned superstar that is LeBron James finally exorcised the NBA playoff demon that is the Boston Celtics and threw the non-clutch gorilla off his back at the same time in a classic final flurry of dagger-filled buckets, complete with after shot poses that would make MJ proud.

After LeBron scored the last 10 points of a 97-87 series clinching victory against a very different, injury-plagued Boston Celtics squad, he immediately took to one knee and buried his head in his left hand after the final buzzer sounded. He had not won the NBA championship, a goal that is more of a possibility now than at the start of the season, but he might as well have. The Celtics have been responsible for two of James last three playoff exits beginning in 2008 where he dueled with Paul Pierce in a classic Game 7 for the right to go to the NBA Finals that year. 2008 coincidentally was the first year Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined Paul Pierce to form the “Big 3″ blueprint every team seems like it is trying to follow. King James admitted their union influenced his decision to team up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Should this apology make Cleveland fans feel better? LeBron pretty much admitted that even though then-Cavaliers GM Danny Ferry tried every year to add pieces around his hometown superstar, including the likes of All-Star guard Mo Williams, Antawn Jamison and Shaquille O’Neal that he didn’t have enough talent around him to beat the Celtics.

A popular Northwestern University professor is in hot water after hosting an optional after-class discussion about sexual fetishes that featured a woman who stripped naked and had her partner use a battery-powered sex toy on her.

The NY Daily News reports that the prestigious Chicago-area school is pulling the human sexuality course that is taught by the professor, J. Michael Bailey.

As news about the impromptu sex demonstration spread, Bailey and the school initially defended the decision to allow it.

The professor stressed that his students were adults and that he had warned them beforehand that parts of the lecture would be explicit.

He later apologized and said it wouldn’t happen again.

The class-conscious comedy movie was only expected to open up with between $8-10 million in sales.

While Tyler Perry seemed to have the Black marriage/comedy market in a stranglehold, Jakes appears to be a player now with the success of this movie.
