Wyclef Jean In Hiding; Receiving Death Threats

Wyclef Jean’s road to the Haitian presidency has been rocky, to say the least.

Wyclef’s desire to be president of his homeland has caused the rapper to go into hiding.

In a series of emails exchanged with the Associated Press, the rapper says that he’s been receiving death threats, including one that warned the rapper that he should leave the country immediately.

Haiti’s electoral commission has also not decided whether or not they will let the rapper run, as the country has a requirement that the president live in the country for five consecutive years prior to an election. Wyclef was born in Haiti and holds a Haitian passport, but grew up in the United States and has lived there ever since. He was appointed as “roving ambassador” of Haiti in 2007, which Wyclef says should exempt him from the residency rule.

On Saturday, August 7, seven NFL veterans were inducted into the Hall Of Fame.

Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, John Randle, Dick LeBeau, Rickey Jackson, Russ Grimm and Floyd Little were each fitted with a coveted yellow blazer.

Rice, a record-setting wide receiver who was drafted by the San Franciso 49ers in 1985 told the crowd that at 47, “I still believe in my heart I could play today.”

Emmitt Smith, considered by most to be the best running back to play the game, was very emotional in his acceptance speech thanking his teammates and his father for their sacrifices on and off the field. Swizz’ Alleged Baby Mama Goes In On Alicia? “I Don’t F*** For Tracks”

Jahna Sebastian is a singer/songwriter/producer in the UK that claims that she had a baby girl by Swizz Beatz.

According to a letter her friend shared with a website, Swizz is aware of the child as he showed up with Alicia Keys last year for a paternity test that eventually proved he was the father.

Anyway, the other day she may have posted subliminal shots at Alicia Keys on her blog. In a blog titled “I give thanks for being a producer myself so I don’t have to f*ck for tracks as if I was just a singer” she concluded with:

Hearing about some of today’s successful artists, who for their career sleep with producers jumping from one to another, break up marriages even when kids are involved and take everything for themselves with no sense of morality, building their image by speculating on sacred things, then get Grammys and worldwide promotion, I think to myself that somehow they get away with it too easy, but what is happening within their soul?

Michael Jackson’s outfits and choreography in his later years took on a very militaristic tone, and now comes word that a video distributor claims to have supplied the King of Pop with Nazi films.

From the New York Post:

“Michael Jackson was a very special client to me,” said Norman Scherer, owner of a videotape distribution company in the 1990s.

In 1995, Scherer was approached by a New Yorker looking to place big orders for a “famous” client — as long as he could be discreet.

“He had a really good collection,” said Scott Schaffer, Jackson’s former personal assistant, who hunted down Scherer to buy obscure titles. “I knew what [Jackson] wanted.”

As for the Hitler flicks — which included such gems as “Nazis — Of Pure Blood,” “Oasis of the Zombies” and “Hitler’s Children” — Scherer assumed that the singer just loved the military garb and lockstep marching.

The-Dream Filed For Divorce 9 Days Before C.Milian Even Gave Birth

TMZ has reported that The-Dream had filed for divorce in Fulton County before Christina Milian even had the chance to give birth to baby Violet.

The papers say their marriage was “irretrievably broken” and that there is no hope for reconciliation. Way harsh!

The Death Of Trouble T-Roy: 20 Years Later

Troy Dixon, better known to the world as Trouble T-Roy, was a member of Heavy D & The Boyz who died after a fall from a stage during a rehearsal in 1990 and immortalized in Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s classic single “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.).”

July 15, 2010 marks the 20th anniversary of his death and XXL Magazine has put together a great memorial piece featuring interviews with G-Whiz and DJ Eddie F of Heavy D & The Boyz, CL Smooth, and Trouble T-Roy’s daughter, Tantania Dixon, who was only 9 months old when he died.

CL Smooth: [Troy’s death] signified what special people mean to the people when they just all of a sudden, at the prime of the lives, are just gone. So many people of the world are affected by that one move, it’s so similar to everybody at that time. It just wasn’t Troy dying it was a lot of our friends dying but Troy was like a public figure that died; someone who was [from] the ’hood but was doing something positive and in the height of what he was doing to get cut short was like he was cheated. I felt that despite me being closer to him or not closer to him than the next person, I felt like I was in a position to do something special [to remember him].

G-Whiz: We were all there when [Troy fell]. It was one of them things where, you know, when an accident happens it’s like, “Wow, that just happened.” It’s just one of those things I’ll never ever forget… When it happened, it was like in shock and it took a while for me to come out of that shock. I didn’t know how to deal with death… I had never lost anyone that close to me. It was really hard for me at the time. I didn’t even make it to the funeral.

Tantania Dixon: [Heavy D, G-Whiz and Eddie F.] still ’til this day treat me like their own. Like, I’m their niece and my uncle Glen [G-Whiz] actually, is like my father from time to time, and steps in when he needs to step in [Laughs]. My uncles told me that my father was a goofball, and like he just brought so much life to the set… Whenever I’m with them they always tell me about memories and how my father was just so full of energy and they see a lot of that in me and how I make people feel sometimes. They said that’s how my father was and I think that’s why my uncle Hev and uncle Glen get teary eyed and sad sometimes ’cause they see some of his traits in me.

Did Jay-Z, Beyonce And Rihanna Boycott The BET Awards Because Of Chris Brown?

What was surprising about the 2010 BET Awards is that we didn’t see Jay-Z, Beyonce or Rihanna. Coincidence? Perhaps not!

Well at least that’s how Mediatakeout.com is reporting it. They claim they got a report saying Hov, Ri Ri, and Bey boycotted the awards because Chris Brown was performing.

In case you didn’t catch the awards, Chris Brown was the lead performer in the Michael Jackson tribute where he had an emotional break down. His breakdown was faker than Nicki Minaj’s “I do it for the women” speech.

Morehouse Alums, The 54, Join AfroPunk 2010 Festival

For you history buffs, The 54 named their band after the first official all black unit in the United States Armed forces during the Civil War, The 54th Regiment. And considering they started their punk band while attending the historically black all male school, Morehouse College in Atlanta, they said they felt like they were going against the traditional “conservative” brand of the HBCU when they came together with their group. Now playing together for the last three years, The 54 will join the 2010 Afro-punk Festival at Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn, NY on June 26, 2010.

Now living in Atlanta, the guys of The 54 said they had to battle off campus police while they practiced their music in the Morehouse College parking lot, with bassist Mercury saying in an interview to Afro-punk that it was sometimes a struggle practicing on campus grounds, but they found some support from Morehouse teachers who started to take their music seriously when they started booking heavy gigs on the Atlanta circuit.

Despite the fact that Morehouse has been noted for their traditional and conservative values, it seems like it may have an affect on black alternative musicians, considering it is the home to artists such as Martin Luther, who will also be playing at the 2010 Afro-punk festival, as well as fellow Morehouse alum Saul Williams, who headlined the 2009 Afro-punk tour.

White House Denies Obama Was In “Whoomp There It Is” Video

There has been a good deal of speculation that President Barack Obama was in the video for Tag Team’s 1990 single “Whoomp There It Is.” Many websites have put up the video, claiming that the current President was an extra in the video.

The rumor got as far as the White House where spokeswoman, Kate Bedingfield said “It’s not him.”

A group member from Tag Team also refuted the allegations, revealing that the man who appears with a Compton hat and large cell phone was in fact, a friend who went by the name L.A. Snow who was part of the group Duice, who had a hit in the early nineties called “Daisy Dukes.”

The man who is NOT Obama appears at 1:01 in the video.
