The latest unemployment number for Georgia is stinging!! It indicates that our state lost jobs last month at a disturbing rate. Georgia is the second worst state when it comes to job loss in the United States. Only New York lost more jobs followed by Georgia and the District of Columbia.

But don’t despair; Georgia is also #1 when it comes to entrepreneurship. Also note, Georgia ranks #2 in the country for the highest number of black-owned businesses.

The best way to jump-start a business is to go digital, according to Internet Guru, Jay Fisha of Jayfisha.com. He advises entrepreneurs to determine operating and marketing costs and most importantly, come up with the best strategy to market your business. For most cases, Jay Fisha suggests Mobile App Development and Internet marketing, due to the popularity of mobile app production. You’ll be able to brand your business to millions of potential customers through their mobile devices, I-pads and Tablets through the Android, Apple or Jay Fisha App market. For more information on business marketing through apps, visit www.jayfisha.com.

The World Wide Web offers a variety of ways to further expose your business. Most notably, networking through social media such as Facebook and Twitter offers an extremely effective way to expand your reach.

Secondly save money! In fact, saving as much money as possible should never be underestimated when it comes to achieving success, according to Gene Marks, New York Times Columnist and small business owner. He advises for you to take advantage of technology to help you save money. For example, you can host your company’s phone system virtually on line with www.grasshopper.com for a small fee instead of paying monthly expensive phone bills.

Free is a wonderful word. Take advantage of free consultations and free advice to help steer clear of fatal business mistakes. Score.org is a partially funded organization that’s staffed by retired executives that offer confidential mentoring for your specific business plans. Score has an office in Atlanta.

Thirdly, if you decide you need funding, the Small Business Association has information on a multitude of business loans, grants, and financial assistance. Keep in mind, you’ll need to have a good business plan to apply for a business loan. The SBA will have business plan templates to choose from to help you write the best plan. Also, to keep up to speed with trends in your field, go to www.sba.gov at any time for on-line training designed to keep entrepreneurs ready for new challenges.

Georgia Congressmen John Lewis and Hank Johnson along with The Congressional Black Caucus are in Atlanta TODAY, with more than 100 companies who are taking resumes, applications and ready to hire. They are at Atlanta Technical College. Registration starts at 8 am. Congressman John Lewis says this jobs event is one of five in major urban cities to help reduce the destructive high unemployment rates. Also concerned, Congressman Hank Johnson who believes targeted initiatives should be discussed to help minority communities. The general unemployment rate in Georgia is 10.1%, but African Americans suffer 16% unemployment. The problem is more staggering when it comes to black males, who suffer 35-45% joblessness.

Hope is here.

4. Finally, along with a positive attitude, the most important thing to bring is a point of view. That is, think from an employer’s point of view. Companies want to recruit the best staff to drive their companies forward. They’ll be pleased to meet with you to discuss opportunities; however you should be ready to sell yourself to them.

Congressmen John Lewis and Hank Johnson along with The Congressional Black Caucus have launched a “For the People” Jobs Initiative to get 10,000 people hired. Congressman Hank Johnson says the CBC gained corporation from hundreds of companies and employers who want to recruit new workers. They will be at various job fairs including Atlanta, on August 18, 2011. Congressman John Lewis says, the national job tour is in response to the alarming high unemployment rates in Black America. According to labor statistics the general unemployment rate is around 9.2%. It’s about 16% for blacks and more specifically, 40% for young black men. However many activists claim the true unemployment number for the African-American community is much more staggering. They say when you consider the many people who can not claim unemployment benefits; then the Black unemployment number is more like 30% for blacks and 50% for young black men.

The Congressional Black Caucus has launched Major Job Fairs, Town Hall Meetings.

First to link the unemployed with companies looking to hire and secondly to get your opinion about critical jobs legislation for this country.
