Subject: Brown Sugar

Dear Shirley and Steve,

I am writing on behalf of my confused co-worker. She has been dating this guy for about 2 years now and is still unsure about if he’s the “one”. But here is the twist, she has this childhood friend that she grew up with and lately she has been growing feelings for him. He is currently stationed in Iraq and will be returning home in the next couple of weeks. He wrote her last month and finally expressed his interest in her. She decided to weigh her options. The guy that she is currently dating is “legally” married with three kids, but they are separated, whereas her childhood friend has never been married and has no kids. My co-worker has never been married and doesn’t have any kids either. She asked me today if it is possible to be in love with two people at the same time. I replied, “I don’t think it is possible”. I feel that she wants to give her childhood friend a shoot, but does not want to destroy their long time friendship. She told her boyfriend that he has until May to finalize their divorce or else. I told her if he hasn’t finalized it in two years, he won’t in two months. I feel she should take her friendship with her childhood friend to the next level. Please help me guide my friend. Sincerely, Just a friend. P.S. I named the subject Brown Sugar because that is what her childhood friend calls her.
